1933's King Kong, directed by Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack and distributed by Radio Pictures, was one of the earliest monster films, then filmed in black and white film reels. The movie was a commercial and critical success, becoming a massive influence on monster movies to come and spawning several remakes. 2017's Kong: Skull Island is one such film, rebooting the franchise and integrating Kong into the Godzilla Monsterverse.
